A germ-grain model applied to the morphological study of dual phase steel

The mechanical properties of dual Phase steels (DP steels) are strictly related to the spatial distribution and the geometry of the two phases composing the steel, ferrite and martensite. Due to the high costs to obtain images of sections of steel samples, one important industrial problem is the reduction of the number of 2D sections needed to build and simulate a geometric model which may repr...

A Phase Transformation Model for the Austenitisation of Martensite in Dual-Phase Steel

This work presents a unique approach for the modelling of the austenitisation of martensite in dual-phase steels within the phase-field method. Driving forces for nucleation and growth are derived from thermodynamic databases. Routines for nucleation are based on a discretisation of the classical nucleation theory. Validation is given via dilatometric experiments.

A Nonparametric Model-based Approach to Inference for Quantile Regression

In several regression applications, a different structural relationship might be anticipated for the higher or lower responses than the average responses. In such cases, quantile regression analysis can uncover important features that would likely be overlooked by traditional mean regression. We develop a Bayesian method for fully nonparametric model-based quantile regression. The approach invo...

Inference for Stereological Extremes

In the production of clean steels the occurrence of imperfections — so-called inclusions — is unavoidable. Furthermore, the strength of a clean steel block is largely dependent on the size of the largest imperfection it contains, so inference on extreme inclusion size forms an important part of quality control. Sampling is generally done by measuring imperfections on planar slices, leading to a...
